Myofunctional Therapy
What is Myofunctional Therapy?
Myo is like physical therapy for your face. It involves exercises to strengthen and reeducate the oral-facial muscles for optimal breathing, sleeping, chewing, swallowing and speaking.
Introducing
Allie Urbanus Perlman, MS. CCC-SLP

During the evaluation, I will ask background questions, take facial measurements and then watch you eat and drink. During therapy sessions, I will teach exercises and modify your existing treatment plan. Exercises are focused on the tongue, lips, cheeks and jaw as well as chewing, swallowing, breathing and body posture. About 5-10 minutes of practice each day is required in order to see quick results!

Tongue & Lips Ties
When the tissue under the tongue or lips are too short or tight, poor facial growth, mouth breathing, sleeep disruptions, dental issues, feeding troubles and head and neck pain may also co-occur.
A functional frenuloplasty procedure may be necessary to release this tight tissue for optimal growth and functioning.
Myofunctional therapy will help strengthen the muscles before the procedure and reteach oral habits after the surgery to get the best results!
Why Myo?
Teeth will shift if the tongue is not resting in the correct position. Muscle is stronger than bone!
