Dental Cleanings Evanston IL
During the cleaning, tartar and plaque are removed, and the teeth are polished to remove any remaining stains.
There is no such thing as a typical cleaning with Elements Dental Studio. Our team provides comprehensive preventative services for all of our patients. We recognize that the foundation of optimal oral health begins with proper dental hygiene. Dental cleanings and exams are two of the most basic yet important preventative treatments we provide. All of our checkup and cleaning appointments involve:
- An evaluation of your dental x-rays, with the use of low-radiation digital radiography technology
- Oral cancer screenings to detect any signs of mouth or throat cancers. Areas of concern include the jaw, around the neck, the inside of the lips, cheeks, and the surface of the gums. This crucial exam increases the probability of early detection (when it is most treatable).
- A detailed inspection of your mouth, teeth, and gums looking for any signs of gum disease – which if left untreated can spread an infection to other parts of the body.
- An assessment of your head and neck, arch and tongue shape, your bite, and the movement of your jaw.
- A careful examination of each tooth, inspecting for loose or broken teeth, damaged fillings, and/or tooth decay
- A thorough Q&A in regard to health history, medications, drug allergies, recent surgeries, nutrition, sleep apnea, grinding, snoring, clenching teeth at night (bruxism), dental cosmetics, overall general mood, and any other concerns.
After determining your specific oral needs Dr. Meira Burman, DMD, will proceed with either one of two cleaning treatments, a routine cleaning (prophylaxis), or deep cleaning (scaling and rooting). While both ultimately achieve the same goal, the procedures are vastly different. A patient already suffering from oral pathologies will require a more deeply restorative, therapeutic treatment.
Prophylaxis: a procedure performed as preventative care to clean the teeth and gums, halting the progression of tooth decay, gingivitis, and periodontal disease. The teeth are then polished, removing any remaining stains. This treatment should be performed bi-annually along with proper home care.
Scaling and Rooting: a restorative dental procedure necessary after a patient’s gums, bones, and surrounding tissues become damaged due to periodontal disease. This treatment is often carried out over two appointments. Although more invasive, with the use of a numbing agent, we are able to provide the patient with comfort during the process.
